Retire in Rhodes
The Island of the Sun
Overview
Why Choose Rhodes?
Rhodes is Greece's fourth-largest island and its sunniest, with over 300 days of sunshine annually. It combines excellent infrastructure, a stunning medieval Old Town (UNESCO site), beautiful beaches, and surprisingly affordable living. For retirees who want guaranteed sunshine and a well-connected island, Rhodes is hard to beat.
Lifestyle
Rhodian life revolves around the outdoors. With 300+ sunny days, every day is a beach day. The island's size (1,400 km²) means you can explore new beaches, villages, and ancient sites for months without repetition. Rhodes Town offers shopping, dining, and healthcare, while villages like Lindos, Kremasti, and Afandou provide quieter alternatives. The island has a strong windsurfing and kitesurfing scene, plus excellent diving.
Climate
Rhodes is Greece's sunniest island with a hot-summer Mediterranean climate. Summer temperatures reach 30-35°C with virtually no rain. Winters are mild (10-16°C) and sunny. The Meltemi winds keep summers comfortable. Sea temperatures allow swimming from April to November. Annual rainfall is just 550mm — one of the lowest in Europe.

Expat Community
You're Not Alone
Rhodes has a growing but smaller expat community compared to Crete or Corfu, estimated at 8,000-10,000 foreign residents. Most are Scandinavian, German, and British. The community is concentrated in Rhodes Town, Ialyssos, and Kremasti. While smaller, the community is active and welcoming. English is widely spoken in tourist areas.
